Serefin first applied this approach in 2010 as HealthCare365, Canada's first health management organization.

Our origin story begins with an 'aha' moment in Thailand when Skip Schwartz, President of Serefin Health, led an organization that focused on exporting Canadian healthcare expertise to the world.

While working with Kluaynamthai Group, Skip pondered improving the care delivered at its primary care clinics, acute care hospitals, geriatric hospitals, and nursing homes.

The challenge was similar to what we deal with in Canada, the struggle to reduce wait times and bed occupancy while improving care for citizens. Determining the number of people with specific ailments seeking medical care at any given time is challenging. Deciding on the appropriate resources required to address the population's needs can be difficult. Traditionally, the solution has been to invest in more facilities and hire more staff. However, this approach often falls short of solving the problem. The key to addressing the issue lies in better management and coordination.

The solution?

Introduce care coordination across the system; use nurses to provide person-centred triage, guide patients to the best available resource, and offload the hospital.

The results were dramatic. It reduced waiting times from as much as 8 hours to under one hour and reduced bed occupancy from 105% to 80% while handling more than double the number of patients. Better still, patients had more in-person time with the doctor.

Our medical and technical teams create innovative ways to fill in the systemic gaps that affect patient care inherent in healthcare systems.

We continue to develop our innovative and proprietary platform to support our client-facing team to provide more person-centred service and increase their efficiency tenfold.  

As HealthCare365, we created a clinic in Toronto and supported Ontario's Autism Program - AccessOAP. As Nursesimple, we offered various care concierge services; to help Covid testing at Montreal airport and corporate benefit programs. 

In December 2022, we rebranded as Serefin to reflect the diversity of our solutions better.

Skip Schwartz

Skip Schwartz, President - Serefin Health

Trained as an architect, Skip specialized in healthcare facilities design. He was Partner-in-Charge of Healthcare at NORR partnership Ltd. He and his team designed award winning hospitals and clinics across Canada, doing groundbreaking work in architectural planning, long term care design, and accessibility. He has operated clinics and hospitals in various parts of the world, and was in charge of the healthcare practice in Canada for HOK – one of the world’s largest architecture firms.

Walter Wakulowsky, President - Serefin Experiences

With a vision to deliver exceptional customer experiences and work with our clients to drive loyalty, Walter leads Serefin Experiences. Over his 30 years working in the industry, Walter has held senior/executive roles or has consulted for some of Canada’s largest contact centres. In his previous role as Chief Operating Officer with Tour East Holidays, Walter utilized his technical and operational expertise to successfully navigate the company through the COVID pandemic, and establish a start-up contact centre that acquired contracts servicing millions of Canadians in the areas of Travel, Rewards, and Healthcare.

Before joining Tour East, Walter worked with WestJet to help drive efficiencies in an 800+ agent contact centre. He also worked with Bell Canada to successfully establish a Caribbean-based offshore contact centre practice that consistently led the company in Customer Satisfaction scores.

Alejandro Roche, Head of Serefin Travel

A highly seasoned travel industry leader with over 35 years of expertise across various countries, including Canada, the U.S., and the Middle East. As the founder of ADD Consulting, Alejandro dedicated himself to discovering and implementing operational efficiencies within global travel agency operations. He spearheaded the implementation of large online travel agencies while consulting on process efficiencies and profitability for clients, including Expedia, Hotwire, and HRG. He has held senior positions at major industry players, including Sabre Travel Network.

Specialties:
Extensive experience in managing complex business partnerships and driving the success of multi-billion dollar contracts. Focus on operational efficiency implementation, corporate strategy development and execution. Complex project and transformation management. Supplier/partner negotiations.
